PDF in, edited PDF out — nothing is uploaded
About this tool
Sign a PDF without printing it or uploading it
Draw your signature, type it, or use a photo of it, and place it on the PDF. Add the date and your initials, fill in the form, and download the signed file. Free, and the document never leaves your browser.
A signature you make here is drawn into the PDF as an image, like signing a printed copy and scanning it, but sharper and without the printer. It is what most people mean by signing a PDF, and it is accepted for everyday agreements, forms and letters. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, which uses an issued certificate to prove who signed; if a contract asks for one, use the signing service it names.
- Free, no sign-up
- Nothing uploaded
- No watermark
Three ways to sign
Draw with a mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus; type your name in one of four handwriting styles; or upload a photo of your signature on paper and the background is removed for you.
Everything a form needs
Add the date in the format you need, tick boxes, type on the lines, and fill in the PDF’s own form fields, then flatten the form so the answers can’t be changed.
Your signature stays yours
The PDF is signed inside this browser tab. Saved signatures are kept in this browser on this device, never on a server, and you can delete them at any time.

Tips for the best results
- Sign on a phoneA finger on a phone screen gives a more natural signature than a mouse. Open this page on your phone, or draw on a laptop trackpad.
- Use a photo of your real signatureSign a white sheet of paper with a dark pen, photograph it in good light, and upload it. Remove the paper background stays on so only the ink is kept.
- Blue ink shows it’s signedSome offices prefer blue, so a signed copy is easy to tell from a photocopy. Pick it before you save the signature.
- Sign lastMake every other change first. Editing a PDF that carries a certificate-based digital signature invalidates it.

Questions
Common questions
Everything here runs in your browser, so the answer to “where does my file go?” is always: nowhere. More in the general FAQ.
How do I sign a PDF?
Open the PDF here, draw, type or upload your signature, and press Use this signature. Click the page where it goes, drag a corner to size it, then press Download PDF.
Is it free, and is my PDF uploaded?
It is free, with no sign-up, watermark or limit on documents, and nothing is uploaded: the PDF is opened, signed and saved inside your browser on your own device.
Is a signature added this way legally binding?
In many countries, including under the US ESIGN Act and the EU and UK eIDAS rules, an electronic signature like this is valid for most everyday agreements, as long as the people involved intend to sign. Some documents, such as wills, deeds and some court or government forms, need a witnessed, notarised or certificate-based signature. If you are unsure, ask the person who sent the document.
Is this a digital signature?
No. It is an electronic signature: an image of your signature placed in the PDF. A certificate-based digital signature also seals the file and proves who signed it with an issued certificate, which this tool does not do.
Where is my saved signature kept?
In this browser on this device, in its local storage, and nowhere else. It is never uploaded. Delete it from the list with the × button; it is also removed if you clear this site’s data. Untick Remember on this device to use a signature once without saving it.
Can I add the date and my initials?
Yes. Tick inserts today’s date in the format you choose, and ticks, crosses and dots for boxes. For initials, create a second signature and place it wherever it is needed.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. The signature pad works with a finger or stylus, and the editor works in mobile browsers.
Can I sign a PDF that someone else already signed?
Yes. Your signature is added to the page like any other mark. If their signature is a certificate-based digital signature, adding yours this way will show it as modified; use the service that created it to add further signatures.
