    About this tool

See your link before you share it

Paste a page’s address to see how it will look when shared on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp, with every Open Graph and X card tag checked and a corrected set of tags to copy.

When a link is shared, each app reads the page’s Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image and friends) to build the card, and X adds its own twitter:card tags. A missing tag, a relative image URL or an image that is too small or too heavy is the usual reason a link shows up bare. The checker fetches the page the way those crawlers do, downloads the share image to measure it, and tells you exactly what to fix.

    Six previews at once

Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp each lay a card out differently. See them side by side, including how your image is cropped.

    The image, measured

Its real width, height, format and file size, checked against what each platform documents: 1200 × 630 px is the safe size for all of them.

    Fixes you can paste

Edit any field to try a change, then copy a complete, corrected set of Open Graph and X card tags for your page’s head.

    Step by step

How to check a link preview

    1. Paste the page address

Enter the URL and press Check. Our server fetches the public page and its share image, like the social networks’ crawlers do.

    2. Read the checks

Red items stop a card from showing properly; amber items make it look worse than it could. Compare the previews for each platform.

    3. Fix and re-share

Edit the fields to try changes, copy the corrected tags into your page, publish, then refresh the platform’s cache with its own debugger tool.

    Tips for the best results

    • Use 1200 × 630 pxA 1.91:1 image of 1200 × 630 px meets Facebook’s recommendation and LinkedIn’s minimum, and fits X’s large card. Keep it under 5 MB.
    • Use absolute URLsog:image must be a full https:// address. A relative path such as /img/share.jpg works in a browser but not for crawlers.
    • Make the image specificX advises against generic images such as a logo on every page. A page-specific image earns more clicks.
    • Platforms cache previewsAfter changing your tags, re-scrape the page in Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn’s Post Inspector, or the old card keeps showing.

    Questions

    Common questions

Everything here runs in your browser, so the answer to “where does my file go?” is always: nowhere. More in the general FAQ.

    What are Open Graph tags?

Meta tags in a page’s head, such as og:title, og:description and og:image, that tell Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and most other apps what title, description and image to show when the page is shared. X reads them too, alongside its own twitter:card tags.

What size should an Open Graph image be?

1200 × 630 px at a 1.91:1 ratio. Facebook recommends that size and shows images under 600 × 315 px as a small thumbnail, LinkedIn asks for at least 1200 × 627 px, and X’s large card accepts images from 300 × 157 up to 4096 × 4096 px. Keep the file under 5 MB, the limit on X and LinkedIn.

    Which image formats work?

JPG and PNG work everywhere; WebP and GIF work on X and most other platforms. SVG does not work as a share image on any of them, so export a raster version.

Why is my link preview wrong or missing?

The usual causes are a missing og:image, a relative image URL, an image that is too small, too large or blocked from crawlers, or a page that redirects or returns an error. The platform may also be showing an old cached preview; re-scrape it in that platform’s debugger.

Do I need twitter:card tags if I have Open Graph tags?

X falls back to Open Graph for the title, description and image, but it needs twitter:card set to summary_large_image to show a large image. Add that one tag at least.

How do I update a preview after fixing my tags?

Each platform caches previews. Paste the URL into Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and press Scrape Again, and into LinkedIn’s Post Inspector, to refresh them. Other apps update when their cache expires.

Are the previews exactly what each app shows?

They are close approximations of each app’s current layout. Apps change their designs and crop images differently across devices, so check the real thing after publishing.

What does the checker send to your server?

Only the address you enter. Our server fetches that public page and its share image once and returns the tags and the image’s size; nothing is stored.
