About this tool

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG

Turn the HEIC photos your iPhone takes into ordinary JPGs that open on Windows, Android, older software and every upload form. Free, with no sign-up, and nothing ever leaves your browser.

Drop one photo or a whole camera-roll export. Each HEIC is decoded inside the page and saved as a JPEG with MozJPEG, the encoder that gets the most quality out of each kilobyte. Set the quality yourself, or name a file size and let the tool find the quality that fits. Need a different format? The same page saves PNG, WebP or AVIF, and can resize, crop or rotate the photo first.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Nothing uploaded
  • No watermark

Why iPhones save HEIC

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), which takes up to half the space of a JPEG at the same quality. The catch is support: Windows may need extra extensions to open it, and many websites and apps still refuse it.

JPG at the size you need

A form that caps uploads at 2 MB or 500 KB? Switch Compress to Target size and the tool searches for the highest JPEG quality that fits, then tells you which quality it used.

Your photos stay on your device

Many HEIC converters upload your photos to a server. This one decodes and encodes them in your browser tab, so private pictures are never transmitted, and there is no queue and no file-size cap.

Step by step

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Add your HEIC photos

Drop .heic or .heif files on the page, or press Browse files. Pick several at once to convert a batch.

  2. Check the quality

The output is already set to JPEG. Keep the quality at 78 or move the slider in Compress, and press Measure output size to see the exact file size first.

  3. Download your JPGs

Save the JPG, or the whole batch as one ZIP. Nothing was uploaded at any point.

Tips for the best results

  • Choose the quality yourselfSettings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic converts photos to JPEG as they copy, at a quality you can’t choose. Keep Originals and convert here to decide.
  • Stop new photos saving as HEICOn iPhone, Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible saves new photos as JPEG. The files are larger, which is why High Efficiency is the default.
  • Resize for the webA 12-megapixel photo is far bigger than any web page shows it. Resize to about 2000 px on the long side before saving and the JPG shrinks dramatically.
  • Location data is removedThe JPG is re-encoded from raw pixels, so the GPS location and camera details in the HEIC are not copied over. Handy before sharing; keep the HEIC if you want them.

Questions

Common questions

Everything here runs in your browser, so the answer to “where does my file go?” is always: nowhere. More in the general FAQ.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

Drop your .heic files on this page. They open already set to save as JPEG; adjust the quality if you like, then press Download. Several files at once download together as a ZIP. It works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone.

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes, completely: no sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit and no file-size cap. It is free to run because your own device does the work; there is no server converting your photos.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Each HEIC file is decoded inside your browser tab and the JPEG is encoded there too. Nothing is sent to a server, so private photos stay private.

Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?

JPEG is lossy, so the photo is compressed again, but at the default quality of 78 the difference is invisible at normal viewing size. For prints or further editing raise the quality to 90 or more, or save as PNG for a lossless copy at a much larger file size.

How do I convert many HEIC photos to JPG at once?

Select or drop them all together. The sidebar shows a batch queue, every photo is saved as JPEG at your chosen quality, and the whole set downloads as one ZIP.

How do I open HEIC files on Windows?

Recent versions of Windows 11 often open HEIC in the Photos app. If yours doesn’t, it needs the free HEIF Image Extensions and the HEVC Video Extensions (about $0.99) from the Microsoft Store. Converting to JPG here is the quicker fix: the JPG opens in every Windows app with nothing to install. More in our guide: what is a HEIC file?

How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?

Open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are saved as JPEG from then on; existing ones stay HEIC. Expect larger files, which is why Apple defaults to High Efficiency.

Does the JPG keep the photo’s date and location?

No. The image is re-encoded from its pixels, so EXIF data such as the capture date, camera model and GPS location is not copied into the JPG. That is useful before sharing a photo publicly; keep the original HEIC if you need the metadata.

Can I convert HEIC to PNG or WebP instead?

Yes. Open Convert and pick PNG, WebP or AVIF instead of JPEG. PNG is lossless but much larger than JPG for photos; WebP and AVIF are smaller than JPG and suit websites.
