About this tool

Convert WebP to PNG without losing quality

Turn WebP images saved from websites into PNGs that open in any editor, viewer or upload form, with transparency intact. Free, with no sign-up, and nothing ever leaves your browser.

Each WebP is decoded in the page and written out as a lossless PNG, so nothing is lost on the way. Tick OxiPNG in Convert for a smaller file with exactly the same pixels. Converting a photo rather than a graphic? The same page saves the WebP as JPG, and can resize or crop it first.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Nothing uploaded
  • No watermark

Why convert WebP at all?

WebP is what most websites now serve, so it is what you get when you save an image from the web. Every browser shows it, but some older editors, Office versions, print services and upload forms still reject it. PNG works everywhere.

Transparency survives

Logos, icons and cut-outs keep their transparent background, because PNG has a full alpha channel. Converting to JPG instead fills transparent areas with a solid colour, white unless you pick another.

Nothing leaves your device

The encoders are WebAssembly running in your tab, so your images are never transmitted. That is also why there is no account, no queue and no size limit, and why EXIF and GPS data are dropped: the file is re-encoded from raw pixels.

Step by step

How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Add your WebP images

Drop .webp files on the page or press Browse files. Select several to convert a batch.

  2. Optionally shrink it

The output is already set to PNG. Tick Optimise with OxiPNG in Convert for a smaller file with identical pixels.

  3. Download your PNGs

Save the PNG, or the whole batch as one ZIP. Nothing was uploaded at any point.

Tips for the best results

  • Photos are better as JPGPNG is lossless, so a photo saved as PNG is often several times larger than the WebP it came from. Pick JPEG in Convert for photos; PNG suits logos, screenshots and graphics.
  • Shrink the PNG losslesslyOxiPNG re-packs the same pixels more tightly. It takes a little longer and the image does not change at all.
  • Resize firstScaling an oversized image down before saving makes the PNG smaller and quicker to load.
  • Keep WebP for your websiteIf the image is going back on a web page, WebP or AVIF is still the smaller choice. Convert to PNG for editing, printing and older software.

Questions

Common questions

Everything here runs in your browser, so the answer to “where does my file go?” is always: nowhere. More in the general FAQ.

How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Drop your .webp files on this page. They open already set to save as PNG; press Download, or drop several to get a ZIP. It works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on any device.

Does converting WebP to PNG lose quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so it adds no compression loss of its own: opaque pixels come through exactly, and partly transparent edges shift by a few colour levels at most, which you cannot see. It cannot restore detail the WebP’s own compression discarded.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes. PNG has a full alpha channel, so the transparency of every pixel, including soft semi-transparent edges, comes through unchanged.

Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?

WebP is usually lossy and tightly compressed; PNG stores every pixel losslessly. For graphics the difference is modest and OxiPNG narrows it. For photos the PNG can be many times larger, so save photos as JPG instead.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Open Convert and pick JPEG instead of PNG, then set the quality. JPG is much smaller for photos but has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour, white by default.

Why do images I save from websites download as WebP?

Most sites now serve WebP because it loads faster than JPG or PNG, so that is the file your browser saves. Convert it here when another program won’t open it. Our guide compares WebP, AVIF, JPEG and PNG.

Can I convert many WebP files at once?

Yes. Drop or select them together and the sidebar shows a batch queue. Every image is saved as PNG and the set downloads as one ZIP.

Is it free, and are my images uploaded?

It is free, with no sign-up, watermark or limit, and nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser on your own device.
